(ATR) A source in the White House tells Around the Rings an announcement is expected in the next week.
The source says Trump is intrigued by the impact the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics have had on the political situation in Korea. The source says Pres. Trump wants to find other opportunities to leverage the Olympic Games for u. s. foreign policy objectives.
The insider says former NBAer Dennis Rodman could be in line for the unpaid advisory post.Rodman is known of late for his forays into North Korea where he has established an intellectual beachhead with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Rodman, along with IOC Pres. Thomas Bach, is one of the few people in the world who have met both Kim and Trump. The source says that with Los Angeles being named as the 2028 Summer Olympic host, he wants to impose some measure of involvement in preparations for the Games.
Contacted at the Mar a Lago White House press office in Palm Beach, Florida, this weekend, Under Assistant Press Secretary Hallie Toesis confirmed Rodman had been a visitor to the Florida White House over the weekend but could not confirm whether an announcement about an Olympic advisor was imminent.
Neither the U.. S. Olympic Committee nor LA2028 were available for immediate comment on this report.
