This weekend, LA 2024’s proposed golf venue, the Riviera Country Club, successfully hosted the annual PGA Tour's Genesis Open and golf's biggest names, including the gold and bronze medalists at Rio 2016. Riviera has been home to PGA Tour pros and the biggest names in golf since 1929, including Tiger Woods' first PGA Tour event, and will host the US Amateur in August 2017.

Dustin Johnson won the tournament by five strokes and with his win became the number 1 ranked golfer in the world. Rio 2016 Olympic champion Justin Rose finished fourth with -11 and was joined by by fellow Olympians Matt Kuchar, who won bronze in Rio, Thomas Pieters, Segio Garcia and Bubba Watson. LA 2024’s proposed golf venue typifies LA 2024's venue plan tailor-made for telling captivating sports stories: existing, world-class venues and the ideal conditions for elite competition, set against LA’s breathtaking and uniquely diverse backdrops.

The 50,000-capacity Riviera Country Club is situated in Santa Monica Canyon adjacent to the Pacific Ocean and is just nine minutes from the proposed Olympic Village at UCLA. In addition to the annual PGA Tour event, the illustrious course has also hosted the US Open and two PGA Championships.

LA 2024 Chairman Casey Wasserman said: "The City of Angels was proud to host current and future Olympians at one of America’s most iconic courses, the Riviera Country Club, LA 2024's proposed golf venue. Steeped in golfing history, Riviera has repeatedly shown itself to be an excellent stage for international competitions and is a further example of the world-class sports facilities in LA already hosting elite athletes from around the world."

Discussing the potential return of the Olympic Games to the United States, Olympian and 2016 Genesis Open champion Bubba Watson, said: "I think it would be amazing. Any time you can get the Olympics in the United States, it's where I'm from, so I'm going to pull for that. Obviously I want to play, but I'm not getting any younger. I would love helping some kids, some younger people have the experience I had at the Olympics. So it would be an amazing time if LA had it and it would be an honor and a privilege to be a part of the Olympics again."

Commenting on the Riviera Country Club as a potential Olympic venue, former World Number 1 Jordan Spieth said: "It would be incredible. Slightly more than half the field will have played this event before, and are therefore familiar on the golf course. I think it would showcase beautifully this area. It would be amazing if the Games did come here. It would be pretty cool for the country to have another Olympic Games and really cool for the city of LA."

Belgian Olympian Thomas Pieters said: "I've got great memories here and I loved Santa Monica when I stayed here, so it's always been one of my favorite spots to come back."
