Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, January 11, 2017: The Executive Committee of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG5) is proud to launch the Ashgabat 2017 brand in the countdown to what will be the greatest event of the year in Turkmenistan.

The Chairman of the AIMAG5 Executive Committee, Dayanch Gulgeldiyev, said: "Kicking off the year of the Games with such a significant milestone is a great opportunity for us to celebrate the progress made ahead of Ashgabat 2017 and to get everyone excited for the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.

"As part of the Silk Road, the region around Ashgabat has been welcoming travellers from Asia for over 2,000 years; the Ashgabat 2017 brand will reflect this rich and historic culture.

"Fittingly, in September 2017, Ashgabat will welcome elite athletes and spectators from all over Asia and Oceania for the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games to celebrate sport through health, inspiration and friendship."

On the Ashgabat 2017 brand he added: "Through the representation of sport and of our beautiful country, the Ashgabat 2017 brand portrays the values of the Games motto: Health. Inspiration. Friendship. It is the aim of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games to draw from our rich heritage to inspire people through sport and to welcome all participating countries to Turkmenistan through friendship".

The Ashgabat 2017 brand follows a story of travelling caravans heading through Turkmenistan along the Silk Road over the centuries. The journey will reflect the traditional heritage of Turkmen culture with a use of modern design techniques to represent Ashgabat as an advanced and modern city.

The iconography used includes traditional ornamental designs and figurative illustrations of heritage representations, natural landmarks of Turkmenistan and some of the most iconic buildings of Ashgabat.

This will be an historic moment for the country, as Ashgabat 2017 will be the first major multi-sport event to be hosted in Turkmenistan. The vision after these Games will be for the city of Ashgabat and the wider country to host future major sporting events at an international level.

The Games will highlight to the world the importance of sport in Turkmenistan while showcasing both traditional and modern artefacts and buildings, with a brand that takes us on a journey along the silk route.

"A great deal of attention has gone into the development of the brand; our key focus has been for Ashgabat 2017 to reflect in full the multi-faceted characteristic of the host country," added Gulgeldiyev.

"Ashgabat represents an eclectic mix of Turkmenistan’s ancient heritage and its avant-garde architecture and we believe the brand captures this completely. We look forward to bringing the brand to life in the city in September."
