(ATR) Panam Sports leaders are conducting a full review of preparations for the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.

A spokesperson for the continental association tells Around the Rings that the sixth Lima 2019 Coordination Commission meeting is covering all topics from infrastructure to security. ATR is told presentations continued into the evening in Peru’s capital.

"The principal focus is the venues now," the spokesperson says. "The Athletes’ Village is in an excellent way, and maybe in December the venue will be ready."

The original estimate for the completion of the Pan American Village was February 2019. However, following a visit by Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and Panam Sports President Neven Ilic to the venue last week, the leaders are more optimistic for an accelerated completion.

"We had the pleasure of welcoming President Ilic just last week for a visit to the Athletes’ Village construction site where we have been making tremendous progress in recent months," Lima 2019 President Carlos Neuhaus said in a statement.

"It was satisfying to receive such high praise from President Ilic for our efforts and it will serve as great motivation for my team to keep up our momentum."

Neuhaus will take Ilic back to the Athletes’ Village as part of a larger venue tour on the second and final day of the CoComm Jan. 31. Panam Sports Secretary General Ivar Sisniega and the Lima 2019 Coordination and Technical Commissions will join Ilic and Neuhaus to review the information provided in presentations on Jan. 30.

The presentations also included information about infrastructure, communications, transportation and medical plans for the games.

The Lima 2019 Pan Am Games will feature more than 6,700 athletes from the 41 countries in the continental association. These elite athletes will compete in 39 sports and 62 disciplines from July 26 to Aug. 11, 2019.

The Parapan Am Games will follow from Aug. 23 to Sept. 1 with more than 1,800 athletes competing in 17 sports.
