LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - Holiday memories are made of events like this.

USA Luge is teaming up with the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) to bring down the curtain on 2012 and ring in 2013 with New Year’s Slidin’ Eve at the combined luge, bobsled and skeleton track on Mt. Van Hoevenberg.

This one-of-a-kind luge racing experience will be offered from 5-8 PM on Monday, Dec. 31, at the Olympic Sports Complex, just five miles from Lake Placid on Rt. 73.

Entering the track from start five, visitors and residents alike can negotiate the lower half of the mile-long track. "Racers" will get first-hand experience tackling Lake Placid’s famous curves such as the Labyrinth and the Chicane, before concluding with the three-turn combination known as the Heart.

As you take your run to glory, Lake Placid’s famous track announcer, Kim Luther, will call the action over the venue’s public address system. Each athlete, their friends and family, will never forget New Year’s Slidin’ Eve 2012.

Prior to taking their run on a training sled, USA Luge will offer coaching from 1998 Olympic silver medalist Gordy Sheer, former national team coach Dmitry Feld and others to be announced.

All this will occur against the backdrop of live music provided by Larry Stone and the Harbingers.

One run per person will cost $125 and includes hors d’oeuvres and two beverages based on age. Prizes will be awarded to the top three overall "competitors". Sliders must be at least 12 years of age.

Non-sliding adult fans wishing to watch the action will be offered the special price of $45 per person, while youngsters under 12 will be charged $30. Paid onlookers will also receive food and age appropriate beverages.

Participants and non-participants will receive a commemorative gift.
