Essex will play its home T20 cricket matches in London Olympic Stadium starting in 2016.
T20 cricket consists of both teams playing a single inning for a maximum of 20 overs. The matches usually take around three hours to complete.
Essex playing in London Olympic Stadium could be part of a larger, two-week T20 cricket festival, which has support from the London Legacy Development Corporation, who must approve every new tenant.
"In principle, there is an agreement that a two-week festival of T20-type cricket could be played at the Olympic Park from 2016," Derek Bowden told BBC Essex Thursday.
"London Legacy and the ECB [England and Wales Cricket Board] are very supportive of the notion of a two-week festival of cricket in the summer."
English Premier League side West Ham United will also occupy the stadium when the current renovation is complete in 2016.
