(ATR) The organizing committee for the 2018 Olympics appears revitalized under its new chairman.
On Friday, Samil - the South Korean arm of professional services giant PwC - was announced as the accounting services supplier for the 2018 Olympics.
This will be only the third sponsor for POCOG. The organizing committee signed its first two sponsors this summer, nearly three years after winning the right to stage the Games. Typically, organizing committees have a large roster of sponsors at this stage of their preparations.
Signing the deal for POCOG was Kwak Youngjin. He is listed as secretary general, replacing Dong Hoo Moon, who stepped down earlier this year for reported health issues.
However, Around the Rings understands that POCOG was caught in a political battle, which may have lead to Moon stepping down, as well as chairman Jin Sun Kim, who announced his resignation in July.
Since then, POCOG recruited Hanjin Group and PyeongChang 2018 bid chairman Yang Ho Cho to lead the committee.
It would appear that Cho is leading to a restructuring of POCOG, hiring or promoting individuals he feels comfortable working with. This has included Muchol Shin, the spokesperson for the PyeongChang 2018 bid, who will serve as director general of communications. Shin also works in communications with Korean Air, which is owned by the Hanjin Group.
