Handy Deal, Tamiflu
Alda Pharmaceuticals was announced as the $CA3 million to $15 million official supplier of hand sanitizer and disinfectant cleaning products for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. VANOC does not release contract terms, so the exact figure is not known.
The company’s hand sanitizers and hand wipes will be available at Games venues, polyclinics and kitchens. The company is listed on the TSX Venture Exchange.
Chief medical officer Dr. Jack Taunton said VANOC has enough seasonal flu vaccine for 25,000 volunteers. It is also working with Vancouver Coastal Health and the Public Health Agency of Canada to acquire H1N1 vaccines.
“We’ve got meetings coming up and we’ll have our plans completed by the end of August,” Taunton said Wednesday. VANOC CEO John Furlong (right) celebrates new sponsor Alda Pharmaceutical by trying some of the hand sanitizer with Alda CEO Terrance Owen. (ATR)
He said VANOC has been able to get an additional three million doses of Tamiflu vaccine for seasonal flu, but “we can only recommend, we cannot mandate” personnel get injected.
Nearly 400 people in British Columbia have been infected with H1N1 and two have died, including a seven-year-old in the Fraser Valley.
