(ATR)Global Sports Week reinvents itself for 2021.
Organizers this week unveiled plans for a new multi-country format for the event’s second edition, which will take place from Feb. 1-5, 2021.
Five continental hubs in Tokyo, Beijing, Dakar, Milan and Los Angeles will be connected live to a central base in Paris.
A virtual platform will link events across the venues and extend participation to up to 10,000 people worldwide.
Live spots from iconic sports venues in cities around the world will also form part of the program.
The GSW House, a new venue located at the We Are Club opposite the Elysee Palace in the French capital, will be the centerpiece for the event.
The Parisian hotel and garden offers 1,400 square meters of flexible space for talks, exhibitions, pitches, demonstrations and parties, according to organizers.
The first edition of Global Sports Week last February brought together 2,000 leaders of the world’s sports economy at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris.
It was among the last major forums to take place before the coronavirus pandemic. Its agenda focused on the future of sport at the intersection of business and society.
"The last few months have been a time to think big. The next few months will be a time to put big ideas into action. This is what we plan to do with Global Sports Week in 2021," Lucien Boyer, co-founder and president of Global Sports Week, said in a statement.
"Right now, multilateral forums are crucial because multilateral action is needed. We want to be a platform to shape this new era in sport and society.
"We are also honored to share this vision with three great partners – Groupe BPCE, the French Ministry of Sport and EGG Sports – whose renewed commitment represents a strong endorsement of the Global Sports Week project."
Major Events Summit Going Virtual
Major Events International’s flagship Major Events Summit will be held virtually from July 7-9.
Speakers at the event include International Paralympics Committee President Andrew Parsons, Paris 2024 director of planning and coordination Lambis Konstantinidis, Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games CEO Ian Reid and UEFA Euro 2020 senior tournament director Andy Carter.
MEI is predicting more than 500 sporting and event professionals from more than 100 organizations will be attending the summit.
Organizers say they will provide as many of the benefits of the face-to-face events as they can. Following the three live-streamed content days on July 7-9, the platform will remain open from July 10-13 for delegates to access all content, continue networking, post questions or request follow-ups.
The sixth edition of the summit is described as a contribution to ensuring the events industry "can return to the new normality with new ways of working and relationships" in the wake of the impact of COVID-19.
Interactive opportunities will include networking groups, workshops and the ability to ask questions to presenters.

SportAccord 2019 was selected as Platinum Award winner for Best Event in Australia at the 2019 Meeting & Events Australia (MEA). It also won for overall Government Event of the Year and took home the Queensland’s Event Legacy Award.
"We are grateful that SportAccord 2019 has been recognized by Meeting & Events Australia for what was such a productive and enjoyable week in Gold Coast, Queensland," SportAccord and GAISF President Raffaele Chiulli said in a statement.
"The recognition only solidifies the value of hosting SportAccord to cities, regions and countries and the legacy impact of our event."
The 2021 edition of the only global sports industry event attended by all International Sport Federations and their stakeholders will be held in Ekaterinburg, Russia from May 23-28, 2021.
