Miami - The second Executive Committee Meeting of the Pan-American Sports Organization (PanamSports) since Neven Ilic was elected as President, took place in Miami this week.
The members discussed several topics on the agenda, but one of the most awaited items was the presentation of the Peruvian delegation headed by the President of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Pedro del Rosario and the President of the Organizing Committee of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games (COPAL), Carlos Neuhaus.
The progress of different functional areas was presented, and the immediate next steps to be implemented. The Lima 2019 team also announced that construction of the Pan American Village will begin in October.
"Movement on the ground has already begun, in the coming weeks we will announce the construction companies that will be in charge of the project. We have to be transparent, and while there is concern about the deadlines, we are optimistic that we are going to take this task forward" said Carlos Neuhaus, President of COPAL.
"We have heard the presentation of Lima 2019, and we are aware that in order for the deadlines to be met, infrastructure construction must begin as soon as possible. We will be monitoring the progress very closely to ensure there are no more delays", said PanamSports President, Neven Ilic.
The meeting also approved all working PanamSports Commissions and their members. In total there are twelve groups tasked with important mandates to drive the organization into the future. The Commissions are as follows; Lima 2019 Coordination Commission; 2023 Pan American Games Evaluation Commission; Finance and Audit Committee; Sports Development Commission; Pan American Youth Games Commission; Athletes Commission; Technical Commission; Women and Sports Commission; Image, Marketing and TV Commission; Legal Commission, Medical Commission; Olympic Solidarity Commission, Commission of Olympic Academies, Culture and Olympic Education; Ethics Committee; and Awards Commission.
"We are working tirelessly with the commission holding meetings with each one of them, and I am very proud of the work our whole team is doing. We are making great progress in our work to improve PanamSports ", said President Neven Ilic.
In this second Executive Committee, the commissions that presented their proposals in recent months were the Sports Development Commission, the Image, Marketing and TV Commission, the Youth Pan American Games Commission, and the Lima 2019 Coordination Commission.
"We are very pleased with this meeting in Miami. I think it has been two very productive days. We have a lot of work ahead of us and there is no time to waste. We have reached important agreements among the members of the Executive Committee and our next meeting will be in Lima this October where we will see the progress that has been made by the host city", concluded Secretary General, Ivar Sisniega.
Next Wednesday, the PanamSports´ President and the Secretary General, will travel to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where they were invited by the International Olympic Committee, with the objective of determining the future of the Center of Hope, the sports complex that was built and is funded by the IOC, in the Haitian capital; and to discuss possible actions to continue to help the athletes of the Caribbean nation.
