NBC Sports Group earned 41 Sports Emmy Award nominations for 2016, highlighted by 14 nominations for its coverage of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in Rio – the most of any single program this year – and 11 nominations for its NFL coverage.
The announcement was made today by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Winners will be announced by the Academy on Tuesday, May 9, at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City.
Highlights of NBC Sports Group’s nominations:
NBC Sports Group’s coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympics received 14 nominations, the most for any single program;
Games of the XXXI Olympiad was nominated for Outstanding Live Sports Special;
Sunday Night Football – primetime television’s No. 1 show – was nominated again for Outstanding Live Sports Series, which it has won seven times in the past eight years;
Golf Channel earned a network-record five Sports Emmy nominations;
Telemundo and Universo earned six nominations in the Spanish-language categories;
10 members of NBCUniversal’s on-air sports team were nominated – the most of any media company;
27-time Emmy Award-winner Bob Costas (NBC) received two nominations, including Outstanding Sports Personality – Studio Host;
David Feherty (Golf Channel/NBC), Dan Patrick (NBC/NBCSN) and Mike Tirico (Golf Channel/NBC) received nominations for Outstanding Sports Personality – Studio Host;
Mike "Doc" Emrick (NBC/NBCSN), a four-time Emmy Award-winner for Outstanding Sports Personality – Play-by-Play, and Al Michaels (NBC), a seven-time Emmy Award-winner, received nominations in the category;
Cris Collinsworth (NBC), who has 16 Sports Emmys, was nominated for Outstanding Sports Personality – Sports Event Analyst;
Michele Tafoya (NBC), a two-time winner of the Outstanding Sports Personality – Sports Reporter Emmy, was nominated for the sixth time in the six-year history of the category;
Andres Cantor (Telemundo/NBC Universo) and Sammy Sadovnik (Telemundo/NBC Universo) were nominated for Outstanding On-Air Sports Personality in Spanish.
All of NBC Sports Group’s national television networks – NBC (28), NBCSN (7), and Golf Channel (5), as well as Spanish-language networks Telemundo (6) and NBCUniverso (3) – received nominations. NBCOlympics.com also received one nomination.
