British Airways’ online social barometer registered a massive spike at 9pm yesterday as Great Britain celebrated Jess Ennis’ Gold medal for the heptathlon.
The barometer brings to life the mood of the nation by measuring social ‘noise’ about the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games at British Airways’ #HomeAdvantage. It then translates that into a symphony of music.
The barometer has registered a total of 501,635 messages since it launched a week ago and yesterday saw a massive surge of 53,505 messages in a day, culminating in a roar of social commentary when British Airways athlete, Jess, took Gold.
The Olympic Stadium, athletics, rowing, gymnastics and Hyde Park are currently the top topics that people are tweeting about.
The user sees and hears the wave change, growing and shrinking as the volume of social media noise flows. They can interact with it too, thereby affecting the sound and appearance of the barometer.
The barometer can be found at ba.com/symphony or on the airline’s Facebook and twitter pages.
