10 Years Since Salt Lake City
Anniversary celebrations for Salt Lake City 2002 kick off Wednesday with a re-lighting of the Olympic cauldron exactly 10 years after its first time ablaze.
Expect full coverage from Around the Rings of all the anniversary events, including an appearance from U.S. presidential hopeful and former SLOC chief Mitt Romney at "A Tribute to Salt Lake 2002 featuring Stars On Ice" slated for Feb. 18.
2014 Test Events
Sochi’s first of four major test events scheduled in the next three months kicks off Tuesday.
Men will take to the slopes of Rosa Khutor Alpine Center through Sunday for a FIS Ski World Cup followed two days later by the start of the women’s event.
IOC inspectors will stop by Feb. 12 through 14 for a visit of the 2014 Coordination Commission, the first of two check-ups this year.
200 Days to Paralympics
London 2012 marks 200 days to go until the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games on Saturday.
Competition opens Aug. 29 and runs through Sept. 9.

Olympians account for the bulk of nominees ahead of Monday night’s Laureus World Sports Awards Ceremony in London.

VivianCheruiyot (Kenya, Athletics), Maria Höfl-Riesch (Germany, Alpine Skiing), Carmelita Jeter (US, Athletics), Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic, Tennis), Homare Sawa (Japan, Football), Yani Tseng (Taiwan, Golf) are the women’s candidates.
Luge World Champs
Winter world championship season kicks off in earnest this weekend with luge in Altenberg, Germany.
Competition begins Saturday and wraps up Sunday.
WADA Media Symposium
World Anti-Doping Agency leadersare welcoming media to Lausanne for Tuesday’s aptly titled 2012 WADA Media Symposium.
Sessions include "WADA in 2012" led by president John Fahey, "The challenges facing anti-doping in 2012 and how WADA will respond to those challenges" led by director general David Howman and "The Code Review Process" led by legal counsel Olivier Niggli.
