The first-ever Winter Youth Olympic Games reach full flight this week in Innsbruck.
Nordic combined is the only discipline already done, meaning the other 14 will be in action at some point from Monday to Sunday.
Cross-country skiing kicks off Tuesday followed by short track speed skating on Wednesday, skeleton on Saturday and bobsleigh on the final day.
In the meantime, more than 1,000 athletes from 70 countries will vie for medals in a total of 63 events, 14 of them featuring at an Olympics for the first time.
IOC president Jacques Rogge will stop by the Patscherkofel ski venue Tuesday morning for the debut of a new mixed parallel alpine team event. Olympic champions Franz Klammer and Stephan Eberharter of Austria will open the competition.
IOC Olympic Games executive director Gilbert Felli will hold a press conference Wednesday with Innsbruck 2012 CEO Peter Bayer and International Ski Federation secretary general Sarah Lewis.
Following last weekend’s welcome from Yu Na Kim, athletes may be star-struck for a second time Thursday when Olympic champion downhill skier Lindsey Vonn visits the giant slalom and holds a Q&A at Congress Hall.
Around the Rings will be on the scene through Sunday’s closing ceremony.

London’sbusy schedule of test events resumes Monday at O2 arena with the rhythmic half of the Visa International Gymnastics.
The eight-day extravaganza took a break over the weekend following the conclusion of artistic and trampoline events.
