A delegation of senior members of the Tokyo 2020 Bid Committee today visited Hirofumi Hirano, Japan’s Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, who expressed the Japanese government’s unequivocal support for the bid, further strengthening the nationally unified effort to bring Games of excitement and excellence to Tokyo. The delegation visited Minister Hirano to officially inform him of Tokyo’s recent selection by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as a Candidate City for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Minister Hirano said: "We have decided to provide Tokyo 2020 badges to all members in the cabinet in support of Tokyo’s bid. The entire government is fully behind the bid and its goal to host a spectacular celebration here in Tokyo."

Tsunekazu Takeda, President of both Japanese Olympic Committee and Tokyo 2020, and Masato Mizuno, Tokyo 2020 CEO, were warmly welcomed at the ministry following their successful effort to advance to the Candidate City stage. The delegates and Minister Hirano discussed the upcoming bid schedule, Tokyo 2020 plan and the public’s growing awareness and support.

The Japanese parliament’s House of Representatives and the House of Councillors both passed resolutions expressing their full cooperation and support for Tokyo 2020 last December. The bid committee responded by inaugurating the Tokyo 2020 Council, a senior advisory board consisting of 64 members from government, including Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, who serves as Supreme Advisor, and leading figures from Japan’s business and sporting communities.
