The next 31 October promises to be unforgettable for Brazilian sprinters Bruno Lins, José Carlos Moreira (Codó), Sandro Viana and Vicente Lenílson. Eleven years after the Olympic Games Beijing 2008, the Brazilian 4x100m relay team will finally receive the Olympic bronze medal. The ceremony will take place at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne (Switzerland), at 4 p.m. local time (CET).
The third place of the Brazilian team was confirmed last year after Nesta Carter of Jamaica who competed in the relay and won gold with his team, was disqualified from the Olympic Games Beijing 2008.
The medals will be given by Bernard Rajzman, member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and one of the stars of the Brazilian Volleyball Team in Los Angeles 1984. Who will also be present at the ceremony is Rogério Sampaio, Olympic Judo gold medallist in Barcelona 1992 and CEO of the Brazilian Olympic Committee.
Vicente Lenílson is the only one of the Brazilian Team who already has an Olympic medal: silver in Sydney 2000, also in the 4x100m relay. He is also Pan-american gold medallist in Rio de Janeiro 2007 with Sandro Viana and Codó.
The ceremony at the Olympic Museum was chosen by the athletes among a menu of six options to receive their medals and recognise their achivements provided to them as part of the new Olympic Medal Reallocation Principles, created by the International Olympic Commitee (IOC) Athletes’ Commission and aproved last year by the IOC Executive Board. For more information on the principles, see: www.olympic.org/athlete365/voice/olympic-medal-reallocation-principles-by-the-international-olympic-committee.
Media representatives wishing to cover the ceremony are requested to register with the International Olympic Committee Media Relations Team via pressoffice@olympic.org. Interested media are requested to gather in the Olympic Museum lobby at 3.15 p.m. local time (Address of The Olympic Museum: Quai d'Ouchy 1, 1006 Lausanne, Switzerland).
