(ATR) Infectious diseases expert Kentaro Iwata says holding the Tokyo 2020 Games later this year is too big of a risk.

Iwata, speaking with Reuters, said "We are facing far more danger than last year, so why do you have to hold the Olympic Games, cancelled last year due to risk of infections, this year?"

Iwata's comments come as all Tokyo 2020 stakeholders adamantly deny a report by British newspaper The Times that "the Japanese government has privately concluded that the Tokyo 2020 Games will have to be cancelled".

Organizers have said for months that the only options are holding the postponed Olympics and Paralympics this summer or cancellation.
