The Mayor Boris Johnson has hailed the extraordinary success of Team GB as the latest medal haul surpasses the successes of the Beijing Games.
The Mayor said:
'Fulsome congratulations to our brilliant sports men and women whose awe-inspiring medal haul has now scaled epic heights. Our athletes' efforts to bring home the bling have delivered a tally not seen by any British team in over three generations. I have no doubt these exhilarating performances will spur millions of people across the country to get involved in sport, especially young people keen to step up as the next crop of medal hunters.
'But it's not over yet! I join the nation in its hope that Team GB is set to deliver more sporting brilliance to come.'
