Madrid takes proud possession of the Olympic rings

The Madrid 2020 bid is now proudly sporting the Olympic rings alongside its logo. Only official Candidate Cities have the right to use the five rings, which represent the five continents. Madrid earned the privilege on 23 May, when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) revealed the names of the three cities that will remain in the race to host the 2020 Olympic Games.

After receiving the IOC’s approval of the logo, Madrid 2020 Organisation President Alejandro Blanco spoke of his pride at having the Olympic rings on board: "It’s another step forward in our journey. We are now a Candidate City and the IOC has also given a very positive assessment of our project. We now have to work hard to deliver a comprehensive dossier that shows everyone the strength of our bid and will help bring us the Games, which will provide a major boost for Spain."

This is the third time that Madrid has received the Olympic rings, having previously made the shortlist of Candidate Cities for the 2012 and 2016 Games, which were eventually awarded to London and Rio de Janeiro respectively. The winning host city of the 2020 Olympic Games will be announced at the 125th IOC Session, to be held in Buenos Aires on 7 September 2013.

An inclusive website

In conjunction with the new Candidate City logo, the Madrid 2020 bid has also made changes to its website, the idea being to make it more socially inclusive and interactive for the public.

From now on, comments made by the bid’s many supporters on social networking sites will appear instantly on the Madrid 2020 website, which has been active on these networks since its inception and has received widespread support both for the bid itself and the other activities it engages in. The web’s users can also share all bid-related news with their followers.

Companies looking to support the project, either by providing sponsorship or taking part in invitations to tender designed to create opportunities for Spanish businesses and youngsters, will also have their own dedicated areas on the website.
