(ATR) Swimmers from over 60 nations will compete in hopes of qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
The event will be held at the London Aquatics Center Sept. 19 to 26. Built for London 2012, the venue hosted swimming at the 2012 Paralympics.
"I cannot thank the Mayor of London, UK Sport and British Swimming enough for their outstanding efforts stepping in to stage and support this Championships, a key Tokyo 2020 qualifier, at such short notice." Andrew Parsons, International Paralympic Committee President, said in a statement.
The U.K. was selected as the new host country for the championships after Malaysia was stripped of the event. The Malaysian government would not agree to allow Israeli athletes to travel to compete.
"World Para Swimming have worked tirelessly to be able to rearrange the World Championships with as little impact as possible to our swimmers in such an important season. We would like to thank the NPC participating in swimming for their patience and understanding during these last several months. " World Para Swimming Manager, Tracy Glassord also added in a statement.
