(ATR) According to a report from ITV, Seb Coe will be the next head of the BBC Trust.
The former head of the London 2012 organizing committee will replace Chris Patten, who stepped down from the trust three weeks ago due to heart surgery. The government has not issued an official confirmation, but multiple sources have confirmed the report.
Coe is seen as a major conservative figure in the British public eye and an ally of Prime Minister David Cameron.
London Mayor Boris Johnson commented on the nomination, saying, "I think it’s fantastic news for the BBC and British broadcasting. Seb Coe is a great leader. I’ve worked with him a lot over the last few years, and I think he’ll demand very high standards of the BBC."
Patten’s time at the Trust was plagued by scandals, which included large payoffs and the mishandling of two sexual abuse scandals.
Coe did not outright deny the rumors, saying he was "very flattered" to be considered.
"I think you will find that whenever any job at the moment comes up, I seem to be slated in for it," Coe told the Daily Mail.
