(ATR) The three finalists to become the next mascot of the Pan American Games will be announced in two weeks.

While the selection committee for the mascot has already chosen the three finalists, the shortlist announcement has been postponed from June 5 to June 19.

Around the Rings understands the delay results from the need to ensure the mascots do not violate any Peruvian copyright laws. The mascots chosen are currently being cleared through Peru’s National Institute for the Defense of Free Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi).

The three finalists were chosen on May 31 by a jury consisting of officials from Lima 2019, the University of San Marcos, the Lima Municipality and private institutions. The selection committee received more than 400 applications from its public design contest.

Once the shortlist is announced, the three mascots will be chosen by a public vote on the Lima 2019 website on June 30. The winner will be announced at the Lima 2019 headquarters in July.

The winner of the design contest will receive $4,500 while the runner-up and third place designs will receive $3,000 and $1,500 respectively.

The Lima 2019 Pan Am Games are scheduled from July 26 to Aug. 11 and will be followed by the Parapan Am Games from Aug. 23 to Sep. 1.
