Three stamps from the series "XXII Olympic Winter Games of 2014 in Sochi: Legends of sport" which feature the famous Olympic champions Aleksandr Ragulin, Anatoly Firsov and Vsevolod Bobrov, have been launched in a ceremony taking place at Moscow’s CSKA Ice Sports Complex on 25th December.
The ceremony was attended by Olympic champions and multiple world champions Vladimir Petrov and Boris Mikhailov, the management of CSKA hockey club, and the representative of the Russian Post Office. As part of the Sochi 2014 Philatelic Program, replica stamps dedicated to outstanding hockey players will be presented to the CSKA Hockey Hall of Fame Museum.
Each player had a highly distinguished career:
· Aleksandr Ragulin (1941-2004) - Defender, Honoured Master of Sports, three-time Olympic champion, 10-time world champion. Aleksandr played for Russian hockey clubs Khimik and CSKA. In the USSR championships, Aleksandr Ragulin played 427 matches and scored 63 goals. He played 102 games and scored 14 goals for the national team at the World and European Championships and the Olympic Games. He was the named the best defender at the World Championship in 1966 and participated of the legendary Canada-USSR Summit Series in 1972.
· Anatoly Firsov (1941-2000) - Soviet hockey player, Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR, three-time Olympic champion and 8-time world champion. He played 474 matches and scored 344 goals against his opponents at national championships goal and played 67 matches and scored 66 goals at the World and Europe Championships and Olympic Games. He was recognized as best attacker at world and European championships four times.
· Vsevolod Bobrov (1922-1979) - Soviet captain of football and hockey teams, awarded the Order of Lenin. He played for CDKA in the USSR championships from 1947 to 1957for the Air Force of the Moscow Military District in 1950 -1953 and during the first two seasons was a player and coach at the same time. He played 130 matches and scored 254 goals. He played 25 games and scored 34 goals at the World Championships, European Championships and Olympic Games. In 1956, Vsevolod Bobrov was captain of the Olympic national hockey team which won gold medals. In total, he scored 332 goals, including 34 for the USSR national team.
