Legal Matters the Focus at 1st Ever RIOU Conference-- Conferences and Conventions

(ATR) The Russian International Olympic University will be hosting its first ever international conference next week.

The conference will be held in combination with the 22nd Congress of the International Association of Sports Law.

"I am very proud that RIOU is holding its first-ever international conference and I look forward to welcoming the delegates to Sochi and to our state-of-the-art campus in just over a week.It has been a great team effort to organize our conference alongside the 22nd IASL Congress and I am very grateful to the partners who are making this event happen," RIOU Rector Professor Lev Belousov said in a statement.

"What makes a university a true center of learning is the availability of expert knowledge from varied sources. In welcoming some of the foremost leaders in sports law to RIOU, we are adding to RIOU’s knowledge base and building relations for the future."

Titled "Mega Events in Sport: Legal Environment" the conference will cover topics that include doping, legal matters, dispute resolution and more through workshops and panels.

Some of the featured speakers arePresident of the European Olympic Committees Janez Kocijančič and President of the IASL Dimitrios Panagiotopoulos.

The Conference will be held in Sochi, Russia - the home of the 2014 Olympic Games - on Nov. 17-18.

World Rugby to Discuss Athlete Health at ConfEx

The welfare of rugby athletes is a major discussion topic at the World Rugby Conference and Exhibition (ConfEx) this week.

As part of the Medical Commission conference held alongside the ConfEx physicians and other experts will have the opportunity to discuss the latest in medical developments and share knowledge on best practices.

World Rugby’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Martin Raftery, Senior Scientist at New Zealand Rugby Dr. Ken Quarrie and member of the International Rugby Players' Association (IRPA) Josh Blackie plan to discuss solutions to support and preserve the health and well-being of rugby's athletes as well as explore strategies to decrease injury in the games.

"Player welfare is World Rugby's number one priority and, guided by leading independent experts, our evidence-based approach is helping protect players at all levels of the game. The medical commission has been a driving force behind player welfare and medical advancements and the conference an invaluable forum to share and consider information from the wider sporting and medical environment" Dr. Raftery said in a statement.

The conference is being held at the Hilton London Metropole from Nov. 14-15.

Nominees Named for Breakthrough Star & Star Coach Awards

As a tribute to the one month countdown until the ITTF Awards, the nominees for the Breakthrough Star & Star Coach have been announced.The awards ceremony held at the Sheraton Hotel in Doha, Qatar will celebrate the achievements of table tennis players around the world.

One athlete who has demonstrated a continuous effort to rise in the sport of table tennis will receive the Breakout Star award. The nominees are the England table tennis team, who made it to the quarterfinals for Great Britain for the first time at the Olympic Games in Rio, the 12-year-old superstar Tomokazu Harimoto of Japan who is currently ranked 10th in the world and lastly the youngest ever women's world cup champion Miu Hirano.

Nominees for the Star Coach award include Liu Guoliang,the coach of the Chinese men's team to all major titles in 2016, Alan Cooke who led the English men's team to the Rio Olympic quarterfinals for the first time and Patrick Chila who led two French athletes to winning the European men's singles final for the first time for France since 1976.

QTTA have very elaborate plans for the 2016 ITTF Star Awards and everyone in attendance and fans around the world watching on TV will surely enjoy the show we have planned to honor the most important people in our sport, the athlete's and their achievements in 2016," Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA) President Khalil Al-Mohannadi said in a statement.

Fans will continue to have the opportunity to vote on their favorite male and female table tennis stars and coaches on the event website. Voting will end on Nov. 13.

ISC Releases Networking App

The mobile networking application released for the International Sports Convention in Geneva, Switzerland will go live this week.

This app will allow delegates to connect with one another and arrange meetings prior to the event. The app will also contain the conference schedule, list of exhibitors, speakers, panels and partners.

Over two days the ISC plans to host 18 sports conferences, including topics such as sports sponsorship, laws, integrity, broadcast and more.

Instructions on how to access the app have yet to be announced, The International Sports Convention will be held on Dec. 7-8.
