(ATR) Organizers of the Lillehammer 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games will meet with organizers of the Lausanne 2020 Winter YOG on Monday in the Olympic capital.

The two-day meeting in Lausanne will allow Lillehammer 2016 to transfer its knowledge to the future Winter YOG hosts. The second edition of the Winter YOG featured many of the venues used in the Lillehammer 1994 Winter Olympics and ended six months ago on Feb. 21.

Lausanne was named as the host of the third Winter Youth Olympics on July 31, 2015 over competitor Brasov, Romania at the IOC Session in Kuala Lumpur.

The Lausanne 2020 YOG is scheduled to take place from Jan. 10-19.

Sportel Returns to Monaco

The annual Sportel Convention begins in Monaco on Monday, Oct. 24 as it welcomes hundreds of leaders from the sports marketing and media industry.

The event will once again be held at the Grimaldi Forum as it seeks to build on the success of the 2015 edition that featured 2,786 attendees from 75 countries.

The four-day convention features several guest speakers including Alex Trickett of Twitter, Dan Reed of Facebook, Francois Vasseur of the French Football Association, Jay Stuart of iSportConnect and Matthew Brabants of the NBA among many others.

A highlight of the convention will be the Sportel Awards held on Oct. 25 where the best international sports videos and illustrated books will be rewarded.

A jury of Olympic icons and personalities of the sports and media industries will present the Golden Podium prize - an original piece created by French painter Raymond Moretti - along with the Sports Book prize. The ceremony will be broadcast on the European television channel L’Equipe 21.

The convention comes to a close on Oct. 27.

Monaco Hosts the ‘Oscars of Sport’

The first edition of the World Sports Legends Awards (WSLA) comes to Monaco on Oct. 25-26.

The first day will consist of media interviews and a cocktail reception with the main event taking place on Oct. 26. The awards ceremony and gala will take place on Wednesday at the Salle Empire of the Hotel de Paris.

Dubbed the ‘Oscars of Sport’ by organizers, the WSLA combines sports with glamour, fashion and entertainment.

The ceremony will honor some of the greatest sporting champions who also promote proper ethics and morals to inspire the next generation.

The World Series Begins

The Major League Baseball World Series begins on Tuesday, Oct. 25 as the Cleveland Indians face the Chicago Cubs.

The two teams will be tested in a best of seven game series with the Indians holding home field advantage should a potential game seven be needed to decide the champion.

Each of the teams in the World Series are seeking to break a long championship drought. The Chicago Cubs have not won the World Series since 1908, the longest active streak in baseball. The Cleveland Indians have not won since the 1948 World Series.

If the series goes the distance, game seven will take place on Nov. 2.
