IN FOCUS: 2015 LANTERN FESTIVAL
On 5 March, Chinese people came together at Beijing’s Olympic Green to celebrate the 2015Lantern Festival, the first significant celebration of the year after the Chinese New Year. TheOlympic Green was beautifully decorated to resemble the famous Song Dynasty Painting"Along the River during the Qingming Festival"!

Since the very beginning of the Olympic campaign, the Chinese government has unanimouslyshowcased its strong support for Beijing 2022. Its commitment to the Bid was again highlightedthis month as both Beijing Vice-Mayor Zhang Jiandong and HebeiProvince Governor Zhang Qingwei visited the Genting SnowPark.
Construction of the high-speed railway line linking Beijing and Zhangjiakou will start this yearand is scheduled to be complete in four-and-a-half years by 2019, as it was announced by ZhuHuigang, Vice Executive Chief of the Beijing Railway Bureau, on 10 March.
The line is part of the national plan for development of the high-speed rail. It will reduce thetravel time between Beijing and Zhangjiakou to just 50 minutes and will already have been inoperation for more than 2 years by the time of the 2022 Olympic Games, if Beijing and itsco-host Zhangjiakou win the right to host the event.
On 9 March, the 19th FIS Junior World Snowboard Championships opened in Yabuli, China.Athletes will compete in six different events: parallel giant slalom; parallel slalom; snowboardcross; snowboard cross team; slope style and half pipe. It is the third time that the event ishosted in Asia (Vivaldi Park, Korea - 2006 and Nagano, Japan - 2009), but the first time it ishosted in China. Chinese athletes did not spare any energy while competing at the World Wheelchair CurlingChampionship in Lohja, Finland, taking home silver medals. A remarkable achievement notonly because Wheelchair Curling only began in China 8 years ago, but also because Chinahad the youngest average team in this year’s Championship.Way to go!
