LIMA, PERU (March 11, 2019) — LATAM Airlines is now the Official Airline of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games and will be responsible for transporting the delegations of athletes, technical officials and leaders of thirteen of the 41 countries that will compete in the continent's most important multisport event that is being held for the first time in Peru.

The agreement was signed today between the President of Panam Sports, Neven Ilic, President of Lima 2019, Carlos Neuhaus, and the General Manager of LATAM Airlines Peru, Manuel van Oordt.

As part of this agreement, LATAM Airlines will transport a total of 4,904 people to Lima who are part of the delegations of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Mexico, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Haiti. LATAM will also return these athletes and officials to their home countries once their time at the Pan American Games concludes.

The President of Panam Sports, Neven Ilic, who traveled to Peru's capital specifically for this occasion, said, "we are very happy with this agreement we have signed. LATAM is one of the most important airlines in the world, so we are proud that it is the Official Airline of the Games and that it can transport our athletes for the great continental sports festival that we will have this July."

Lima 2019 President, Carlos Neuhaus, said that this agreement consolidates two important milestones in the organization of the Lima 2019 Pan Am Games: the arrival of outstanding athletes and the arrival of the Pan American Torch.

"Lima 2019 will be a sporting and, at the same time, a cultural festival that will allow Peru to be seen by the eyes of the world. In our capacity as host, we will offer athletes sports infrastructure with quality standards and a cultural program of equal quality. The success of the Games will be the great experience that athletes and visitors will be able to have, and the legacy left for Peruvians," he said.

For LATAM Airlines, participating in the Lima 2019 Pan American Games as the Official Airline represents the opportunity to be close to the most important athletes of the Americas, to take them to fulfill their dreams and "to celebrate their effort and dedication," said General Manager of LATAM Airlines Peru, Manuel van Oordt.

"It is also a time to show the world what the region is made of, the capacity of its people and its passion for sports, and to be the airline that connects Latin America, its culture and its diversity with the world, hence our slogan for the partnership, ‘Americas Above’," van Oordt added.

LATAM Airlines, the Official Airline of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, will also be in charge of transporting the Pan American Torch, with the journey beginning at the ruins of Teotihuacan in Mexico, before being taken to Machu Picchu on a LATAM Airlines flight where it will start its expedition throughout Peru's major cities.

As part of the agreement, a group of representatives selected by LATAM Airlines will accompany the torch relay throughout Peru to help light the flame of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games during the Opening Ceremony. Likewise, the airline will organize a series of contests to invite Peruvians to attend the great competitions of the Lima 2019 Games and support the athletes who will be competing in the various disciplines.
