(ATR) Janet Evans says the Los Angeles 2024 Olympic bid will name the members of its Athletes Commission next week.

Evans made the announcement at the end of a live question and answer session via Facebook along with LA 2024 bid leader Casey Wasserman. Wasserman and Evans used Samsung tablets to respond to questions that Facebook users had posted to the LA 2024 page covering a wide variety of topics related to the Olympic bid.

Approximately 50 questions were asked over a series of posts on the LA 2024 Facebook page. Many came from users in the Los Angeles area who were curious about the amount of jobs the Games would bring to the city, details about the recently announced Olympic Village at UCLA and how Los Angeles can convince the IOC to bring the Games back to L.A for the third time.

Other questions came from users across the country who are seeking ways to support the bid in their own cities. Evans said the support from the entire country was vital to the success of the bid.

"When the United States Olympic Committee chose Los Angeles as the bid, we saw this as a national bid," said Evans. "The U.S. hasn’t hosted the [Summer] Games since Atlanta in 1996 so this is a bid for the whole nation. When I speak to U.S. athletes I don’t just speak with Californian Olympians, I speak to athletes all over the country."

The Facebook Q&A is the latest initiative by the L.A. bid to engage the Los Angeles community and the U.S. with the bid through social media. Last week, LA 2024 partnered with Snapchat to deliver geographic filters near the proposed L.A. venue clusters that users can send to their friends. Wasserman says this approach allows for a more personalized approach to the bid.

"Today is an example of how we can use social media to engage the public," Wasserman said. "We think our transparency will be unprecedented. This is possible with the foundation of our venues and infrastructure so we can focus all of our efforts on improving the Games experience."

"In L.A. we are the cultural capital of storytelling, and we plan to leverage the creativity of our city to tell the story of our bid."
