LA 2024 congratulates Anita DeFrantz on her bronze medal-winning team's induction into the National Rowing Hall of Fame

LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles 2024 today congratulated US IOC Executive Board Member and Los Angeles Olympian Anita DeFrantz for her induction into the National Rowing Hall of Fame alongside the crew members of the bronze medal-winning Women’s eight team that she captained at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. DeFrantz, who joined LA 2024 as Senior Advisor for Legacy in January, will be honored along with the rest of the National Rowing Hall of Fame Class of 2016 at an induction ceremony in Sarasota, FL, where athletes will be competing to represent Team USA at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. This will be DeFrantz's second induction into the National Rowing Hall of Fame, having been honored as an individual in 2010.

LA 2024 Chairman Casey Wasserman said: "On behalf of everyone at LA 2024, I would like to congratulate Anita on this historic and highly-deserved accolade. It is not only a testament to her sporting achievements, but also to her admirable commitment and passion for the sport of rowing and the Olympic Movement. We are honored to have her on the LA 2024 team.

"Anita has been, and continues to be, a fantastic ambassador for the US in the Olympic Movement. As an Olympian, an IOC Executive Board member, and the former president of the LA84 Foundation, Anita’s dedication to the values of the Olympic Movement have and will continue to serve as an inspiration to us all as we work to bring the Games back to the United States for the first time in 28 years."

In her role as Senior Advisor for Legacy, DeFrantz is charged with guiding LA 2024's legacy plans to ensure that a 2024 Games will leave a positive and lasting impact on the city, the country and the Olympic Movement.

Prior to joining LA 2024, DeFrantz served as the president of the LA84 Foundation, stewarding the legacy of Los Angeles’ 1984 Games. Over the past 30 years, the LA84 Foundation, which received 40% of the 1984 Games’ proceeds, has invested more than $225 million to support more than 2,000 youth sports organizations and continues to provide Los Angeles youth with recreation and sports opportunities today. DeFrantz also served as vice president of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee and was elected to IOC membership in 1986.
