KBS named official Host Broadcaster of Gwangju Universiade

The 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade Organizing Committee (hereafter GUOC) and the Korea Broadcasting System (KBS) carried out the signing of the MOU for KBS to be named the Host Broadcaster for the Gwangju Summer Universiade, which took place at the KBS headquarters in Seoul on April 15th, 2014.

The two co-chairman of the GUOC, Kang Un-tae and Chung Ui-hwa, and the Vice-president of KBS, Ryu Hyun-soon, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of each organization.

The Organizing Committee and KBS both agreed to cooperate for the mega-sporting event, which will be the platform for amateur university-student athletes to unite and prosper in various fields, going beyond a simple sports festival.

As the Host Broadcaster for the Gwangju Universiade, KBS will be in charge of operating the International Broadcasting Center, which is the center of international signal production of all competitions and opening and closing ceremony, as well as supporting all international and national broadcasters.

During the signing, KBS Vice-president Ryu Hyun-soon stated, "We will eagerly take part in encouraging participation from the public as well as making Gwangju known around the globe, contributing to increasing the city’s brand value."

Co-chairman of GUOC, Kang Un-tae also commented, "Together we will share the EPIC (Eco-friendliness, Peace, IT innovation, Culture) vision of the Gwangju Universiade with the world and foster the dreams and hopes of youths."

The 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade will take place for 12 days from July 3rd to 14th, 2015 in the city of Gwangju, with more than 20,000 participants from 170 countries.
