President of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), John Coates, has paid tribute to the late Arthur Tunstall for his dedication and unique contribution to Australian sport and the Olympic Movement.
"I have known Arthur for more than forty years through his many voluntary involvements in Australian sport, but principally in boxing and the Commonwealth Games movement in Australia."
"He was at the forefront of the old school of voluntary sports administrators who did so much to create the Australian sports industry as we know it today."
"Arthur was one of the most respected sporting administrators around the world. He was a man of the highest integrity and character and I am proud to have called him a personal friend.
"My deepest sympathy is extended to his family."
Arthur Tunstall was the Australian Team Boxing Manager at the 1960, 1968, 1976 and 1980 Olympic Games and a Boxing Technical Delegate at the 1988 Seoul, 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. He was a Jury Member of the Boxing Program at the 1984 Los Angeles and Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
The AOC awarded Arthur Honorary Life Membership in 1990 and he attended numerous AOC Annual General Meetings in that capacity and as a delegate to boxing.
He was appointed Honorary Secretary/Treasurer of the Amateur Boxing Union of Australia in 1953 and served in that position for 46 years. In 2005 he was appointed a member of the Board.
In 1979 he was awarded an OBE for his service to sport (boxing).
In 1982 Arthur was appointed an Executive Member of the International Amateur Boxing Federation (AIBA) and was recently honoured for his contribution to international amateur boxing.
In 2005 he was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame as an administrator for his contribution to the Commonwealth Games Movement and Boxing.
Arthur Tunstall passed away last night, age 93. He lived on the NSW South Coast with his son, Robert, in recent years. His wife, Peggy, passed away in 2013.
