London, 26 July 2012 – Japanese Olympic athletes, Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) officials and Olympic Family members gathered today to officially open the doors of Japan House, Japan’s cultural showcase for the London Games. Designed primarily as a meeting point for athletes and as a centre for activities and information for members of the Japanese Olympic Team, Japan House is located at No.4 Hamilton Place, a townhouse in Mayfair overlooking Hyde Park and home to the Royal Aeronautical Society. Members of the media are also welcome to visit Japan House.
Tsunekazu Takeda, president of both the JOC and Tokyo 2020, said: "The Japan House is a great place to experience the unique blend of tradition and innovation that is synonymous with modern Japanese culture. A visit to Japan House is defined -- as is every visit to our country -- by Japan’s spirit of genuine hospitality, or ‘omotenashi’. It is also an extraordinary opportunity to build momentum for our bid to host Games of excellence and excitement in Tokyo in 2020."
Activities at Japan House will continue throughout the Games, including daily visits from Japanese Olympians, live-stream television coverage of sport and events featuring Japanese athletes, exhibitions of the official team uniforms and other memorabilia, and JOC photo exhibitions. Additionally, results and information about medallists will be prominently displayed. Japan House also features an area dedicated to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Bid, where visitors are introduced to Japan’s vibrant culture, the many attractions Tokyo has to offer, and details of Tokyo 2020’s plans for the Games.
The Japan House will be open until the end of the Games on August 12.
