Beach Handball on the official programme of The 2013 World Games in Cali

Lausanne (07/10/2010). Beach Handball will be on the official sports programme of The World Games 2013 in Cali, Colombia for the first time. This decision was taken by the Executive Comittee of the International World Games Association at its meeting in Lausanne on Saturday. The tournament in Cali, Colombia will feature eight of the world's best women's and men's teams each.

In Akita / Japan 2001, Duisburg/Germany 2005 and Kaohsiung/Chinese Taipei Beach Handball was an invitational sports. As the President of the IWGA, Ron Froehlich, explained, the success of the sport in terms of high-quality competitions plus lively interest of the audience and the media in the last three editions of The World Games was a crucial factor when deciding about the application of the International Handball Federation to admit the sports to the official sports programme.

ISF readmitted as 33rd member of the IWGA

Softball is on the official sports programme of the 2013 World Games in Cali

Lausanne (7/14/2010). The International Softball Federation (ISF) is back as a member of the International World Games Association. At its meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland the IWGA Executive Committee decided unanimously to readmit ISF to the IWGA. Softball will be part of the invitational sports programme at The 9th World Games 2013 in Cali, Colombia. The federation is the 33rd member organisation of the IWGA.

Softball was among the founding members of the IWGA in 1981. Yet, when the sport became Olympic in 1996, the ISF left the International World Games Association. After the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing the IOC removed the sports from the official programme. Already in 2009 in Kaohsiung the women's teams participated in The World Games again, as an invitational sport.

Now the Executive Committee of the IWGA acceded to the application presented by the ISF to become an official World Games member federation again. IWGA President Ron Froehlich informed ISF President Don Porter of the decision immediately after the meeting.
