The International Triathlon Union (ITU) is pleased to announce its partnership with the International Powerman Association (IPA) will continue from 2017-2020 to stage the ITU Powerman Long Distance Duathlon World Championships each year. The event will be part of the Powerman Series and will remain in Zofingen, Switzerland, located approximately 60km west of Zurich.
"The long distance duathlon is one of toughest events ITU offers up, and is becoming more and more popular each year thanks to the wonderful work being done by Powerman," said ITU President and IOC Member Marisol Casado. "We look forward to continuing our partnership with them over the next four years."
This year will mark the 29th edition of Powerman Zofingen and the ninth time it will serve as the ITU Duathlon Long Distance World Championship. The event will be held on 3-4 September 2016 with the elite duathletes fighting it out for gold over a 10km run followed by a 150km bike then a 30km run.
Moving forward, Powerman will also reserve the right to organize a Middle Distance Duathlon World Championships.
"The new 2017-2020 partnership agreement will allow for long-term planning in Duathlon for the first time," said Powerman Vice President Stefan Ruf. "Powerman is proud to be the strategic partner of ITU in long distance duathlon, and plans to expand its activities in many more countries in close cooperation with the Continental and National Federations."
