The 2014 ITF Annual General Meeting concluded today at the Joharah Conference Centre at the Madinat Jumeirah Resort. One hundred and sixty-two delegates from 85 nations attended the meeting which was opened by HH Sheikh Hasher Maktoum Jumah Al Maktoum, President of Tennis Emirates, who welcomed the ITF AGM to Dubai. ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti gave his annual review of the year while there were two additional Key Issues Sessions on Finance and Davis Cup and Fed Cup.

One of the important topics dealt with by the AGM were proposals to change the governance model of the ITF. The assembly voted overwhelmingly to approve a 12-year term limit for the President and members of the Board of Directors. Term limits are effective from the date of the 2015 AGM and will not be implemented retrospectively. In addition, the AGM voted to remove the post of Executive Vice President from the Board, although the position of Chief Operating Officer remains in place. This change comes into effect after the 2015 Annual General Meeting.

The AGM approved a series of regulation changes and clarifications for the ITF’s international team competitions, Davis Cup by BNP Paribas and Fed Cup by BNP Paribas. The AGM approved a motion from the Rules of Tennis Committee wherein the specification of the wheelchair from Regulation 3 of the Wheelchair Regulations is moved into the Rules of Tennis. The AGM also approved a change to the ITF Constitution to consolidate the existing anti-doping related obligations of National Associations to assist the ITF’s anti-doping efforts and contribute towards making the programme compliant with the 2015 WADA Code.

The AGM voted an increase from one to three shares for the following nations: Belarus, Kuwait and Sri Lanka.

Awards for Services to the Game were approved for William Alvarez (COL), Mohammad Ghareeb (KUW), Walter Goethals (BEL), Henk Koster (NED), Alex Metreveli (GEO), Igor Moska (SVK), Masaru Uchiyama (JPN), Olga Zhikhareva (RUS) and Natasha Zvereva (BLR). Additional Awards were approved for France’s Jean-Claude Massias (Coaches Commission nomination) and Great Britain’s Clare Wood, the London 2012 Competition Manager (Board of Directors nomination).

Angelo Binaghi, President of the Italian Tennis Federation, as 2013 champions, hosted the annual Fed Cup lunch, while Ivo Kaderka, President of the Czech Tennis Association, co-hosted the AGM Gala Dinner with the ITF.

The 2015 ITF Annual General Meeting will be held in Santiago, Chile in September.
