Press Release 32/2017
ISSF ranked among 10 other IFs in middle group - Group B
Munich (GER), 18 June 2017 - The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) today welcomed, and pledged to build on, the mid-table ranking given to the sport by the ASOIF Governance Taskforce (GTF).
The ASOIF General Assembly mandated the Governance Taskforce (GTF) to conduct an evaluation of the state of governance of the 28 Olympic IFs between November 2016 and March 2017 using a self-assessment questionnaire with independent moderation of the responses. Each IF was scored against 50 indicators with the highest scoring IFs being assigned to Group A, the middle scoring IFs being assigned to Group B and the lowest scoring IFs assigned to Group C.
The ISSF was placed in Group B alongside 10 other IFs and was praised for its transparency in publishing a good range of information including details of the General Assembly and audited accounts. The ISSF stated that the Group B ranking presented a platform to embrace further the very highest standards of good governance and transparency.
ISSF President Olegario Vázquez Raña said:
"We are pleased with the results of the ASOIF Governance Taskforce. We finished in Group B, which was positive as it reflects the good work we have done, but it is our aim to keep on developing our governance and we will continue to dedicate time and resources to this matter: it’s always possible to do more. We have taken on board the feedback of the GTF and we are studying the necessary changes where there is room for improvement. We will always look to improve. We are committed to doing everything we can to ensure that we are operating under the highest standards of good governance and transparency."
A now discontinued ISSF’s Code of Ethics version was considered by the GTF in their evaluation, and that was noted as an area for improvement. The ISSF has already introduced a new Code of Ethics - published in February 2017 - which addresses the critical points raised by the GTF. The ISSF is continuing to work with ASOIF to further improve its governance.
