ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Cyprus closed by a great victory of Kuwait's Alrashidi

Nicoisa (CYP), 17/06/2013 - Kuwait's Abdullah Alrashidi won the Skeet Men final, the closing event of the ISSF World Cup in Nicosia.The 49-year old 3-time Wolrd Champion from Kuwait came back atop of an ISSF world cup podium after 16 years, and he made it in a thrilling way.

Qualifications, semi-final and Gold medal match were indeed not enough to decide the podium placements, and a shoot-off was conducted to decide the winner of the match. The experienced Alrashidi won the tiebreaker, outscoring his opponents Jansson of Sweden 10 to 9 hits. And now the Kuwaiti champions plans big: "I want to qualify for Rio 2016, together with my son!" The Skeet Men event concluded the third leg of this year's ISSF Shotgun World Cup Series. More than 380 shooters coming from 58 countries competed in the five Olympic events of shotgun shooting from the 10 to the 16 of June, on the layouts of the well known range of Nicosia.

Italy finished atop of the medal standings, with one medal of each color. The People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation followed in second place, with one Gold medal each. The home country, Cyprus, ended up in sixth place, thanks to a Silver medal won at the Skeet Women event, two days ago.

"It has been a great competition. We have to thank the Cyprus Shooting Sport Federation for hosting such a successful World Cup Stage. The results, and the records scored here, proved once again that Nicosia's is a perfect location for our competitions." The ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber said, at the closing ceremony.

"We are proud to be entrusted by the International Shooting Sport Federation, and we hope to have all of you athletes back again here in Cyprus soon." Mr. Demetris Lordos, the President of the Cyprus Shooting Sport Federation replied.

The 2013 ISSF World Cup Series will now continue in Granada, Spain, where a combined World Cup stage in Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun events will take place from the 3 through the 12 of July.
