Xining – Qinghai, China's Summer Resort Capital and famous passing channel of the ancient Silk Road, is holding the upcoming round of the IFSC World Cup for the Speed and Lead discipline. The Chinese city, located on the eastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, will be in the spotlight this Friday (September, 2) and Saturday (September, 3) when the 95 athletes from 14 different nations of the globe will gather to compete in the IFSC event.
The World Cup, organized by the Chinese Mountaineering Association (CMA) together with the Qinghai Sports Bureau, will be run outdoor on a location having as backdrop a beautiful natural scenery of Xining. "It's fantastic to see the world's best climbers back in Xining. We can’t wait to see the athletes push those times again in Speed, and the incredible moves they will pursue in Lead" comment the Event Organizers.
China is participating with the largest national team; among its valued athletes Qixin Zhong, the fastest men on the on the wall, speed world record in Arco with an astonishing 6.26 and current Speed World Champion. Russia, the second wider team, is sending its best climbers to compete in Speed. Amongst them: Anna Tsyganova (current World Youth Champion), Kseniia Alekseeva and Sergey Sinitsyn (current Team Speed World Champions), Maria Krasavina (gold medal at the 2011 World Championship), Sergey Abdrakhmanov (bronze in Team Speed in the recent Arco World Championship). While the Polish national team will count on the outstanding Edyta Ropek, current leader of the World Cup ranking.
The Slovenian Mina Markovic and the Korean Kim Jain, the Austrian Jakob Schubert and the French, Manuel Romain are the seeded climbers who will respectively rival in the group of the 23 women and 31 men registered for the competition on the Lead routes, prepared under the direction of the Italian chief routesetter Leonardo Di Marino.
The IFSC TV schedule begins Friday, 2 with Lead qualifications at 10 am Chinese Time (CET 4 am) followed at 4 pm (CET 10 am) by the Speed opening rounds. Speed finals will take place on Saturday, 3 at 2 pm (CET 8 am). Lead semis and finals will be run on the same Saturday, at 10 am (CET 4 am) and at 5 pm (CET 11 am).
