(ATR) A total of 81 Russian athletes housed in federal and regional training bases have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to official sources.
The announcement was made by Alexei Morozov, Head of High Performance at the Russian Sports Ministry, on a local television channel.
In May, Russian athletes were able to resume training, suspended amid the new coronavirus pandemic.
"Together with the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA), we have launched an effort to detect infected individuals and people who were in contact with them," he said.

Cuban Defector Wins USA Greco Wrestling Title
(ATR) Alan Vera is Cuba's first Greco-Roman wrestler to become a United States national champion.
Last weekend, the Cuban won the 87 kilogram title during the USA Wrestling Senior Championship held in Coralville, Iowa, under strict sanitary protocols.
Vera hopes to represent the United States at the Tokyo Olympics but first assures Around The Rings that he must compete successfully at the Olympic Trials, postponed by the coronavirus until April 2021.

Mexican Olympism Remembers Games, Medals and Records
(ATR) Along with the 52nd anniversary of the historic first Olympic Games in Latin America that it hosted, Mexico also commemorated on October 12 the 45th anniversary of the VII Pan American Games.
Mexico managed to save the continuity of the continental mega-event whose celebration was in danger after the withdrawal of the original host city of Santiago, Chile.
A transcendent award for the Mexican effort occurred one day after the inauguration of the hemispheric event, which became the third largest event held in the capital of Mexico in seven years, after the 1968 Olympics and the 1970 Soccer World Cup. It was the second time, that the city had organized a Pan American Games after the 1955 edition.
