(ATR) The International Olympic Committee recognizes Damaris Young as the new president of the Olympic Committee of Panama (COP) and "energetically" rejects the violation of the autonomy of the national Olympic entity.

Young, a former national basketball team member and jurist specializing in Sports Law and Management, is the first woman to lead the national Olympic movement and the first in Central American Olympic history.

She is the 16th president of the COP since its foundation in 1934. Since 2014 she has been legal and management advisor to the COP, since 2015 a member of the IOC Athlete Environment Commission, and since 2016, president of the Appeals Panel for the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).

Additional IIHF Requirements for Belarus

(ATR) Belarus and Latvia co-hosting the 2021 men’s world championship remains the "first option" for the International Ice Hockey Federation.

But IIHF president René Fasel said the federation has told the Belarusian government what it must do if it wants to remain a co-host for the event, which runs from May 21-June 6.

Fasel, in a question-and-answer format on the federation website, provided details following a meeting earlier this week with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko.

USA Olympic Champion Charged in Capitol Riots

(ATR) Five-time U.S. Olympic swimming medalist Klete Keller has been arrested and charged in connection with the riot at the U.S. Capitol building after video unveiled appears to depict him in last week’s deadly attack.

Keller, 38, a three-time Olympian, was charged with obstructing law enforcement engaged in official duties, unlawfully entering Capitol grounds and disorderly conduct on federal property.

An FBI complaint filed in U.S. District Court, citing video evidence that had been made public, initially requested the warrant charging Keller. His identity confirmed by at least a dozen swimmers, the six-foot-six athlete is seen wearing a U.S. Olympic team jacket during the deadly melee.
