Mohammed Hanzab, ICSS President, said:

"Over the last few years, there has been a significant increase in the number of safety and security risks and challenges to sport and it is clear there is now an urgent need to provide better training and education for those responsible for our safety and security in sport.

"Alongside our partners at SRH University Heidelberg, I believe that the International Advanced Studies Programme on Sport Safety and Security Management will be an important step in developing a more coordinated platform for sharing knowledge in sport safety and major event security, as well as identifying the latest methods and techniques in safeguarding major events and sport venues around the world.

"I would like to thank SRH University Heidelberg for becoming the first university to deliver this programme and believe that, as one of the top universities in Germany, their innovative approach to learning and mentoring students will play an important role in safeguarding future major events, as well as developing the next generation of leaders in sport."

In line with the ICSS’s commitment to training and education in the area of sport safety, security and integrity, the International Advanced Studies Programme on Sport Safety and Security Management follows on from successful training courses held by the ICSS in Qatar and Germany and will see ICSS’s Sport Safety and Security experts work alongside leading professors from SRH University Heidelberg to share with students their experiences of securing some of the world’s top sports venues and major events.

Helmut Spahn, Director General, ICSS, added:

"As an international organisation working in sport safety, security and integrity, we feel a strong responsibility to educate and train those who look after our safety and security at major sport events.

"The International Advanced Studies Programme on Sport Safety and Security Management with SRH University Heidelberg will provide major event organisers and professionals working in sport safety and security with a unique opportunity to learn how to enhance their event, as well as equipping them with best practice and the latest industry techniques.

"With a targeted approach to educating and mentoring students, its commitment to academic excellence and global business network, SRH University Heidelberg is the perfect partner to run the inaugural programme and I would encourage anyone serious about protecting their major event or sport venue to enrol on this course."

Prof. Dr. Gustav Rückemann, Vice-President, SRH University Heidelberg concluded:

"We see the development, organisation, and achievement of qualified education and training as an important academic task of the SRH University Heidelberg. Represented by the University's Institute for Scientific Further Education and Human Resource Development (IWP), the SRH University pursues its goal of educating and qualifying competence-oriented and practically-skilled professionals.

"Together with our partner, the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS), we have come up with the new International Advanced Studies Programme on Safety and Security Management. We are pleased to have found in the ICSS a competent and experienced partner with whom we can promote the professionalisation and standardisation of training in sport safety and security management at an international level.
