Bolts for Bolt?
It is likely to become the defining photograph of the IAAF Athletics World Championships in Moscow.
On Sunday night, Usain Bolt won the 100m in a downpour to reclaim his world championship title. As Bolt crossed the finish line, what should be photographed alongside him but a bolt. Of lightning.
The photo (above) has garnered massive international press attention. It led off Monday morning editions of SportsCenter, the leading sports program in the United States and one that rarely dedicates coverage to athletics.
In a blog post, Oliver Morin said the photo was pure "luck" and taken with the fifth of his five cameras.
"This was, I think, a once-in-a-lifetime moment" he wrote. "In my 25 years as a photographer I’ve never had an uncontrollable external element make a photo like this, and I imagine if I tried again for a similar result for the next 50 years, it wouldn’t happen again. So, I only really give myself credit for one percent of this picture!"
USOC Launching New Digital Assets
The U.S. Olympic Committee will unveil its new "digital assets" at an event on Tuesday in New York City.
Called the "Team USA Newfront", the USOC said in a statement the event "will reveal the various opportunities for companies of all sizes to support the U.S. Olympic Movement through the purchase of Team USA digital assets."
Around the Rings understands this means non-Olympic sponsors will be able to buy advertisements on the new properties, as long as the companies are not competitors of existing sponsors.
One of the new assets will be the USOC’s virtual pin trading game, Team USA Pinsanity.
According to the USOC, the organization’s "digital reach" increased 350% from 2010 to 2012.
