A few months after the success of the reception in Paris World Championship of Handball, the City of Paris welcomes receive a new major international sporting event, the Hockey World Championship Ice, from 5 to 21 May 2017.

this is the second time the capital hosts the tournament since 1951, and for the first time in the history of this championship, two countries, France and Germany have asked to organize the tournament together. The competition is prepared by two nations who practice their motto "Together for 2017".

France and Germany have been retained at the IIHF Congress in 2013, a symbolic year. This date marks the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Elysée Treaty, Treaty of Franco-German friendship, which marks the process of reconciliation and friendship of two nations 18 years after World War II.

In Paris, the competition will take place at the AccorHotels Arena, the largest multipurpose room in France with a capacity of 13,437 seats for hockey.

As part of the sports and social policy of the City, Parisian and Parisians will be able to attend free one of the games of the official competition organized in AccorHotels Arena. More than half the tickets offered by the municipality are destined to schools and recreation centers. The City of Paris and continues its policy of inclusion of often remote audiences of major sporting events. In total, more than 2,500 Parisians will have the opportunity to enjoy the great spectacle offered by the hockey games on ice.

Jean-François Martins, assistant to the mayor in charge of sports, said that "The City of Paris is a haven of major international sports events: World Cup women's rugby in 2015; Euro 2016; Handball Worlds, Ice Hockey and Wrestling in 2017 and of women's handball European Championship, Ryder Cup and Gay Games in 2018 to end the World Women's Cup in 2019 and the athletics world in 2020 " . The aedile welcomes this dynamic "that carries us towards Lima on September 13 for the award of the host city of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games."
