The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee is continuing to test all functions and services at the Ice Hockey U18 World Championship, staged at the two Olympic arenas in Sochi. Examination of the ticket services, which were tested during the previous Sochi 2014 Test Events, is continuing.
Sports fans show special passion in attending ice hockey games. It is expected that the number of spectators at the U18 World Championship will exceed the attendance of any other Sochi 2014 test event of this season.
Rene Fasel, President of the International Ice Hockey Federation, on the Sochi public during Russia-USA opening match:
- It was a surprise for me. This is the passion for sport they have in Russia, I would say, generally, and hockey once again is big. So, it was not a really big surprise in the end. Actually, Russia was winning, and it’s much easier when you win than when you lose.
Tyler Kelleher (USA), forward:
- I didn’t think it’s gonna be that crazy. People here seem excited, it’s pretty cool to play here before the Olympics.
Vladimir Tkachyov (Russia), forward:
- Some of the guys had never seen so many spectators as today before, so a few of them were nervous before the game, while others encouraged them so they could begin calmly. Of course, the spectators helped us achieve victory, and my thanks to them for that. May they come and support us in future!
