The capital of the US state of Utah, Salt Lake City, for the second time after 1993 is host of the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF) Congress. For the annual conference of the Olympic winter sports federation on 28 June, about 130 participants, including delegates from more than 35 national federations along with Race Organizers, Track Officials, IBSF Representatives and guests, gather in the 2002 Olympic host town.

15 years after the Winter Games took place in Salt Lake City, the 2017 IBSF Congress now focuses on PyeongChang2018 - highlight of the 2017/2018 icetrack season.

At the Pre-Congress on 27 June, the reports of the IBSF Vice Presidents Ben Sandford (Legal Affairs), David Tomatis (Marketing and Events), Darrin Steele (Sport), Andreas Trautvetter (Corporate and Finance) and Adam Pengilly (International Affairs), and of Athletes´ Representative Peter van Wees are presented to the delegates. Infront Sports & Media AG, the IBSF Media and Marketing partner, also attends the congress and speaks about the results of the last season.

The 2017 IBSF Congress on 28 June starts with the opening speech of President Ivo Ferriani. Later, the Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games (POCOG) presents the state of the preparations in PyeongChang – the Opening Ceremony being just around seven months ahead.

In Salt Lake City, three World Championships will be awarded: the location of the 2021 IBSF World Championships and the host tracks for the 3. IBSF Para World Championships 2018 and the Summer Push World Championships 2018.

In addition to the congress, the participants look forward to an invitation of host Federation USABS (USA Bobsled & Skeleton) and the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation to a guided tour and dinner in the Salt Lake City Natural History Museum. ©RWH2017
