The Gwangju Universiade Organizing Committee (GUOC) is putting efforts in safety precautions in case of a natural hazard to occur during the games. An emergency restoration team will be formed and will be on stand-by at the venues to operate the competitions as scheduled.
The GUOC president Yoon Jang-hyun stated, "Safety is the first priority and we will concentrate making the Universiade safe from the typhoon heading to Korea."
The organizing committee has prepared countermeasures in case of a natural hazard and installed temporary facilities in the competition and training venues. The temporary facilities and seats at the venues will be thoroughly inspected.
If a typhoon hits Gwangju and Jeolla Province, the GUOC will take a 3 step action plan. If a warning emerges, temporary facilities will be secured by sandbags, wires, safety packages etc in the first stage. In the second phase, the temporary facilities with hanging wires and unstable structures will be dismantled. The last stage is to disassemble all facilities which cannot stand the typhoon.
The GUOC is devoted to make a ‘Safe Universiade’ by double-triple checking all competition and training venues.
Some festivals will be cancelled in case of any heavy rain or storm occurs.
