Gwangju 2015 receives transfer of knowledge from Kazan

2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade Organizing Committee (GUOC 2015), together with the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and 2013 Kazan Universiade Organizing Committee (Kazan 2013), is hosting a Debriefing meeting from the 24th to the 25th of October, for two days.

The debriefing meeting is part of the transfer of knowledgeprogram organized by FISU, where the past Universiade host city passes on their experience and know-how to the next host city. At this meeting, major director-generals from the Kazan 2013, as well as delegates from FISU, are in attendance to support the success of the 2015 Gwangju Universiade. The 2017 Taipei Organizing Committee is also present as observers to learn the experiences from the previous OCs.

From FISU, First vice-president, Oleg Matytsin, and Secretary-General / CEO, Eric Saintrond, along with Summer Universiade Director Marc Vandenplas, Director for Education Services Kole Gjeloshaj and Summer Universiade Manager Jing Zhao, attended the debriefing meeting. During the opening ceremony, FISU First vice-president Oleg Matytsin addressed the OC members of Gwangju, Kazan, and Taipei, and wished a two successful days of knowledge transferring. FISU Secretary-General/ CEOof FISU, Eric Saintrond also emphasized the importance of knowledge transfer in the successful operation of the Universiade and mentioned how FISU will continue to develop new and more efficient ways to pass on the successful past experiences.

The Secretary General of GUOC, Kim Yoon-Suk also welcomed all in attendance and expressed his expectationon the successful carrying out of the knowledge transfer from Kazan to Gwangju.

To pass on all of their expertise, 16 officials from the Kazan OC came to Gwangju, including First Deputy Director General, Azat Kadyrov. During the morning session of the first day, Azat Kadyrov gave a general introduction of the 2013 Kazan Universiade, as well as stating the objective of this meeting, which is to provide Gwangju with the possibility to study the experience of the 2013 Universiade and apply what they learn for the success of the 2015 Universiade.

After the opening ceremony and plenary session, breakout sessions of each functional area followed. The first day consisted of a total eight different topics, including accreditation, volunteer management, catering, finance, planning and coordination, knowledge management, sports and venues, and Athletes village.

On the second day of the debriefing meeting, other functional areas will be covered, which include accommodation, arrival and departure, opening and closing ceremonies, protocol, transportation, medical services, and TV & media.

After the two day debriefing meeting is over, the delegates will all be returning on the 26th, whereas the GUOC will put even bigger effort to prepare for the next summer Univerisade occurring in Gwangju 2015, with everything they have learned from the Kazan OC, provided by the knowledge transfer program.

FISU Director of Administration, Chief of the Staff to the President, Ms Hedwige Hankart was present during the same period to have further meeting with the Gwangju OC concerning the FISU hotels and other key issues.
