(ATR) A Greek bronze medalist in weightlifting has apparently tested positive for performance enhancing drugs at the Athens Olympics.
Greek media report that that the athlete is Leonidas Sampanis, who competes in the 62kg class.
Confirmation of the positive has not yet been made.
Reacting to word of the possible infraction, a Greek government spokesman tells Around the Rings.com that any Greek medalist who tests positive at the Olympics will forfeit the public honors that usually come with an Olympic medal.
Sampanis and other Greek medalists at the Games have already been declared honorary officers in the military.
In the case of disgraced sprinters Costas Kenteris and Katerina Thanou, a police investigation into the circumstances of their mysterious motorcycle crash eight days ago has been expanded to include a search of a warehouse used by their coach.
