Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) Chairman, Peter Beattie AC has today endorsed the announcement of a High Integrity Anti-Doping Partnership and GOLDOC’s commitment, from the onset, to delivering a clean Games.

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) in partnership with the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) and GOLDOC have established an Anti-Doping Taskforce that will protect clean athletes and promote the integrity of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018).

"From the establishment of GOLDOC in 2012 the notion to deliver a Games where spectators will pay to see legitimate feats of athleticism has been paramount.

"We have been working with the CGF and ASADA to develop a foundation taskforce whose aim, through their collective intelligence networks is to detect and prevent doping before the athletes compete.

"We have always committed to using World-Anti Doping Authority (WADA) accredited laboratories to ensure there will be no integrity issues with our Games however we have also committed to delivering a Games on time and on budget and the cost to test in Australia is incredibly expensive.

"GOLDOC is responsible for significant tax payer investment and to that end we have explored a number of overseas WADA agencies - we must look for best value for money in everything we do and that includes anti-doping.

"I am pleased that, with the support of the Federal Government, testing will be conducted in Australia and we believe the partnership and its delivery of the anti-doping program through the Taskforce will augur well for sport globally.

"The cost to ensure a program of the utmost integrity and reliability is delivered will be in excess of $4 million," Mr Beattie said.

GOLDOC CEO, Mark Peters echoed the Chairman’s endorsement of the Taskforce and GOLDOC’s unwavering commitment and determination to deliver a Games where legitimate athletes and spectators can expect competition to be fair and conducted in the true spirit of sportsmanship.

"The Federal Government has shown great support for GC2018 providing a range of services including border protection, customs and visa processing and their support to ensure the delivery of an anti-doping program of the highest integrity aligns with a collective objective to stage a clean and fair Games in 2018.
