Doha, Qatar – 9th February 2016: The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has celebrated National Sport Day 2016 and ushered in a year of cycling in Doha by hosting a "We Ride for Doha 2016" cycling event in Doha’s The Pearl. Elsewhere, National Sport Day has seen all ages and abilities come together and ‘Be Olympic’ by participating in Olympic activities across Qatar.

Speaking after the We Ride for Doha 2016 event, the President of the QOC, H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani said:

Sport for Tomorrow supports the promotion of the Paralympic Movement in Indonesia

On 3-4 February, the Japan Sport Council held a sporting event to promote the Paralympic Movement entitled "Para-sport Quest" at the Special School for Children with a Visual Impairment in Bandung, Indonesia. The aim of the event was to enhance mutual understanding between students with and without a visual impairment and to raise awareness of and interest in Paralympic events and other sports for persons with an impairment. The event was held as part of the Sport for Tomorrow programme, an initiative to promote the power of sport, and was attended by a total of 48 primary school students who learnt about para-sports and tried out para-sports for themselves.

Outstanding performances during the month of January earned alpine skiers Staci Mannella and Jamie Stanton, and the U.S. women’s volleyball team Best of January honors for the Team USA Awards presented by Dow, the United States Olympic Committee announced today.Mannella (Randolph, New Jersey) claimed four medals in two events and became the first and youngest U.S. alpine skier (age 19) to capture a medal for Team USA in the 2016 IPC Alpine Skiing World Cup season opener, winning gold in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. She added three more medals in the women’s visually impaired class – including two golds – at world cups in Tarvisio, Italy, and St. Moritz, Switzerland, contributing to a 34-medal haul for Team USA throughout the month. Stanton (Clinton Township, Michigan) won three IPC Alpine Skiing World Cup medals – two silvers and one bronze – in men’s standing slalom at competitions in Tarvisio, Italy, and St. Moritz, Switzerland, over a span of six days. His three podium appearances helped Team USA to a 34-medal haul in the month of January. The U.S. women’s volleyball team qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games by winning the four-team NORCECA Olympic Qualification Tournament in Lincoln, Nebraska. The tournament gold medal marked the U.S.’s sixth title in the last seven tournaments dating back to the 2014 FIVB World Championship, as well as Team USA’s ninth consecutive Olympic qualification.

FIFA invites companies to tender to be the Public Food & Beverage Concessionaire in Russia

FIFA has invited prospective tenderers to submit proposals for the FIFA Public Food & Beverage Concession operations at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ and FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017.

The FIFA Public Food & Beverage Concessionaire Programme is the programme which FIFA will oversee to cater food and beverage for general stadium ticket holders at both tournaments. The main objective of the tender is to provide quality products across all venues, with strong encouragement to also highlight regional culinary specialities.

Across both events, an estimated 3.7 million tickets will be available to the general public for matches at the 12 FIFA World Cup and four FIFA Confederations Cup stadiums, and the Public Food & Beverage Concessionaire Programme will play a major role in their matchday experience. The programme will also provide temporary jobs for thousands of local Russian workers in the eleven Host Cities.

At the 2014 FIFA World Cup™, over 12,000 temporary jobs were created for Brazilian citizens at public concession stands with over 3.1 million food and beverage transactions taking place at the stadiums over the course of the competition. For more information, please click here.

Board confirms process to award Rugby League World Cup 2021 hosting rights

The RLIF Board met on 12 January and finalised the documentation proposed by the RLIF Chief Executive, David Collier, for potential Hosts for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup.David Collier commented:"The bid documentation provides the criteria and the requirements upon which submissions will be considered for the 2021 World Cup. The deadline for submissions will be the end of June 2016 and we expect to announce the successful bidder in the fourth quarter of 2016.""The Rugby League World Cup is the marquee event for our sport and requires world class facilities and infrastructure to provide the stage for the world's best players to deliver the highest quality of rugby for all our supporters and for the nations participating."The RLIF Board also confirmed financial support for the Asia Pacific and European Continental operations and grants for each of the 18 Full Members.RLIF Chairman Nigel Wood commented:"These grants are fundamental to the financial health of our members and the Board approved the early payment of the 2016 grants to assist our Members. The Board also noted the excellent progress made by the Continental Federations, the successful hosting of the World Cup Qualifiers in Florida and South Africa and the securing of additional funding by the European Federation from the European Commission to support coaching and governance."

WFDF’s Board of Directors and the Freestyle & Overall Committees are seeking bids from potential host organizers for the WFDF 2017 Freestyle & Overall Flying Disc Championships (WFOC)

The tournament will feature competitions in seven flying disc disciplines — Freestyle, Double Disc Court, Discathon, Accuracy, Disc Golf, Distance and Self-Caught Flight and Champions will be crowned for each individual discipline.The World Overall champions will be awarded based on a tally of points on three or more disciplines contested by a player – Champions will be crowned by Age and Gender -Open, Women’s, Masters, Grand Masters, Senior Grand Masters, Legends and Juniors.The 2015 WOC was successfully hosted in Norrkoeping Sweden in July where more than 100 athletes took part from 12 countries and 3 continents.If you are interested in preparing a bid, we ask for initial indications of interest no later than 21st January 2016.The deadline for submitting completed bids for WOC 2017 is 21st February 2016. The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced that it is seeking an E-Commerce or Mobile Wallet Company within India to become a Global Partner for the ICC World Twenty20 in India in March / April 2016.

Interested parties are invited to bid for the exclusive Global Partner position for this year’s event, which offers significant rights and benefits reflective of this top tier sponsorship.

The tournament starts on 8 March and finishes with the final in Kolkata on 3 April combining both the men’s and women’s competitions. There will be a total of 16 teams participating, and 58 matches – 35 men’s and 23 women’s – played at eight different venues across the country.

This will be the first time that the ICC World Twenty20 has been staged in India, and the event is predicted to generate a cumulative worldwide TV audience of approximately 1.5 billion people. Star Sports will broadcast every match of the tournament live across India and the sub-continent.

as soon as possible and in any event by no later than 1200 (Dubai time) on 21st January 2016. World Rugby launches Rugby World Cup 2019 host broadcast tender

World Rugby has launched the tender process for the appointment of host broadcast services for Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan. Rugby World Cup 2015 was the most viewed and engaged rugby event ever, reaching 780 million homes and inspiring new audiences in emerging rugby markets in record numbers worldwide. Following a full review of broadcast operation strategy undertaken prior to England 2015 with the objective of keeping Rugby World Cup at the cutting edge of sports broadcasting innovation, the international federation will, for the first time, be taking control of the host broadcast output for its showcase event, working with a broadcast partner to deliver the world feed. This strategy reflects World Rugby's commitment to the highest and most consistent standards of broadcast output and its mission to grow the global rugby family. 2017 Women's Rugby World Championships

Just months after a record-breaking Women’s Rugby World Cup in France, the tender process has now opened to host the event in 2017.

The tournament, which was won by England after a thrilling final in Paris last August, will move to 2017 to maximise synergy with the Olympic and Rugby World Cup Sevens cycles, allowing the world’s best female players to compete on rugby’s biggest stages. The event will return to a four-year cycle after 2017.

The tender process was ratified by World Rugby Council at its meeting in London last week.
